Former bureaucrat, Sword Vashum is the 44th TNL President


EKHON | UKHRUL: In a close contest, a retired bureaucrat Sword Vashum has won the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) presidential election with a mere 43 votes against his closest rival KYS Yangmi held at the TNL conference hall in Viewland, Ukhrul on Wednesday.

With this win, Sword Vashum has become the 44th president of the Tangkhul apex customary body.

The election was voted by a total of 660 votes out of the total number of 731 registered TNL Minganin (representatives). Out of this, Sword secured 277 votes while KYS Yangmi got 234 votes defeating the rival by a mere 43 votes. As per the poll result, the other two candidates, SA Ramnganing and Vareishang Zingkhai secured 112 and 18 votes respectively.

During the handing over of the winning certificate, the new elected President expressed his joy for the support and promised to work for all sections of the community.

Oath-taking and handing-over ceremony for the president-elect will be held after 10 days. The post of TNL President was lying vacant after David Kashung tendered his resignation from the position in February earlier this year.
