Heavy rain leaves Ukhrul-Imphal road impassable

Ukhrul, June 16, 2023: Incessant rainfall over the past week has rendered National Highway 202 (Imphal-Ukhrul road) impassable around Ramva to Gwaltabi stretch. Vehicular movement were reported to be diverted at two places along Ramva and Thoyee junction as per sources.

Travelers coming from Ukhrul towards Imphal were forced to divert at Ramva via Lungpha and Shingta junction while another diversion is from Thoyee junction to Gwaltabi area.

Owing to bad road condition thanks to the ongoing construction of two lane road, two trucks were broke down and remained stranded at Mahadev area. Meanwhile, several trucks coming from Ukhrul are seen stuck at Gwaltabi area near Yaingangpokpi village.

While heavy machineries were sent for pulling out the truck, it is yet to restore the roads at the time of filing this report. According to sources, the entire stretch of the road from Leingangching areas and upto to Ramva village is in deplorable condition.

The ongoing construction of double lane road that began in 2020 has become a great inconvenience to travelers. When it rain, it becomes too muddy and slippery and when it is sunny, it is too dusty and pumpy.
