World Environment Day observed towards sustainable future


EKHON |UKHRUL: With an aim to provide a platform for students to learn about environmental issues, share their concerns, and work together towards a sustainable future, World Environment Day was observed at St. Joseph’s College with great enthusiasm and dedication. The event was organized by ENFOGAL, Eco-Club, Botany Department, and EVS of st.Joseph college in collaboration with Ukhrul PHE Division and CRISIL Foundation. Over 200 students participated at the event.

The program commenced with a talk by Ningchuimi Shingnaisui, Assitant Engineer, Ukhrul PHE Division on the history of World Environment Day and the importance of sustainable environment. He emphasized the need to take collective action to protect the environment and urged the students to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives.

The second speaker, Thotdharso Area Manager from CRISIL Foundation, delivered a thought-provoking talk on the cashless transactions and environment. He highlighted the benefits of promoting cashless transactions, such as reducing the cutting of trees , plastic waste and minimizing carbon footprint. He emphasized that every small step towards cashless transactions can contribute to a significant reduction in environmental degradation.

While ENFOGAL team spoke on the importance of wildlife conservation. They emphasized that protecting wildlife should be our ultimate goal and encouraged the students to join hands in this noble endeavor.

The program was followed by a tree plantation and clean-up drive. The event was part of the Himalayan Clean-Up initiative, which is observed every year from May 25th to June 5th. The students and staff participated in a waste audit and brand audit to assess the amount of waste generated around the college. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of reducing waste and promoting a clean environment.
