2 Tangkhul Naga Civilians Shot, Questions Raised on Security Forces’ Inaction

Date:

Ukhrul, Manipur | EKHON:
Two civilians from Sharkaphung village in Manipur’s Kamjong district were injured in an attack by alleged Kuki militants on Tuesday morning. Ringyui Ramror, 30, and Raichan Lungleng, 25, sustained leg injuries from suspected long-range sniper fire from the neighbouring Kuki village of Shangkai.

The injured civilians have been evacuated to Ukhrul district hospital by BSF and Ukhrul Police for medical treatment.

The continued attacks by armed militants, particularly in the presence of Central Forces has raised serious concerns about the efficacy of existing security protocols and questions regarding the accountability of authorities tasked with maintaining law and order.

Tangkhul Naga bodies including the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Tangkhul Naga Foothills Organisation (TNFO), Sikibung/Sharkaphung Village Authority has condemned the attacks by Kuki militants on Tangkhul Naga civilians in Sikibung village and Kamjong Headquarters, Manipur.

TNL has claimed that the Assam Rifles warned civilians against retaliating, suggesting collusion with the Kuki militants. They also accused the Central Security Forces of inaction and partiality, questioning their accountability.

The Tangkhul bodies have demanded immediate action from state and central authorities to stop the attacks, ensure civilian safety, and prosecute those responsible.
