Chopper service from Moreh to Aizawl, assures Amit Shah

Tengnoupal, May 31, 2023: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on his three-day visit to violence-hit Manipur, met CSOs of Moreh and Tengnoupal to take stock of the situation. His visit was met with total shutdown.

During the close door meeting held at Key Location Point (KLP), the Union Minister interacted with leaders of various CSOs including leaders of Nepali Gorkha Samaj, Moreh, Manipuri Muslim Council of Moreh, Hill Tribal Council, Moreh, Moreh Youth Club and Kuki Students’ Organisation.

According to Thangboi Lhungdim, President of KSO, a memorandum with 8 charter points of demand was submitted to the Union Minister, including;

1. Immediate roll back of Manipur Police Commando from Moreh.

2. Separate administration for tribals/Kuki.

3. Stop court hearing cases in Imphal for present conflict.

4. Arrange chopper service between Moreh to Aizawl and Moreh to Guwahati at the earliest.

5. Declare Meitei radical groups Arambai Tenggol and Meetei Leepun as outlaw organizations

6. Uninterrupted telecom services in Moreh

7. Safe transportation of supply of essential goods

8. Extend relief items from Central govt directly to Moreh.

While assuring the communities not to feel inferior, Amit Shah was said to have assured the CSOs of certain key points. By Friday, 2nd of June, Chopper services will be provided for those in need of medical attention. State Police Commandos will be withdrawn as early as possible. The Home Minister has also assured the CSOs to sanction 30k metric tonnes of rice to Moreh and Churachandpur, in addition to state government.

Amit Shah also reiterated his stance to maintain peace and order for early solution to the issue. The Home Minister has left for Kangpokpi district for another meeting.
