NSF General Conference held with calls for Naga unity amid differences

Ukhrul: The 30th General Conference of Naga Student’s Federation was held with a call for unity and collective aspirations of Nagas beyond Border in Ukhrul town, Manipur.

Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, MLA & Advisor School Education & SCERT, Nagaland who attended the inaugural session as Special Guest unveiled the monolith erected at Nayi Kashung, Ukhrul in memory of the Conference.

In his inaugural Speech, Naga MLA Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome said that “the word ‘Naga’ unites all Naga communities living across the border in spite of the artificial political boundaries that divide us.

“The Naga legislator further mused that perhaps it is with this chaos within usthat we find order in the name Nagas.

Emphasizing on the initial inception of NSF and the current state, he shared that “a lot of changes has taken place since NSF incepted in 1947. Though the Federation as we know now is a student body, it was initially founded for political cause.”

He further noted that today with a lot of unsettling issues, the struggle faced by NSF has not only change but driven more and the Federation he believed will face more challenges in future.

A solidarity message from North East Student Organization ( NESO), Eastern Naga Students Federation and United Naga Council ( UNC) calls to stand together for our common vision and goal of all North eastern states of India.

President NESO Samuel Jyrwa expressed that there has been silence invasion of immigrants in all North East state, this common issues is collective responsible of all.

Meanwhile, in his Presidential address, Kegwayhun Tep, President of NSF said the Conference is not just an event but to reason out to solve the problem amicably. He appealed every Naga leaders to come together as one nation and one people adding that killing will not bring any solution.

He also addressed the prevailing communal crisis in Manipur and appealed the Meiteis and Kukis for peace and solution.” We want to send a message to neighbors they have to understand the historical rights of the people. Therefore appeal the communities to support the cause of the Naga people, Tep further addressed.

Lorho S pfoze, MP Lok Sabha (Outer Manipur) attended the Valedictory session as the special guest.

Meanwhile, in the the General Election held this evening for the tenure of 2023-2025, Metovi Rhi from Chakhesang tribe has been declared as the new President of NSF, while Tisuiding Heraang from Zeliangrong tribe, Chumben Jhuvung from Lotha and Kato Awomi from Sumi tribe are the new VP, GS and Speaker respectively.

The inaugural session of the General Conference saw myriad of performances from The Musical-Trio from Dimapur, Tangkhul folk dance from Myanmar, a folk fusion from Padma Shri Awardee Guru Reuben Mashangva among others.

Over 1000 Naga delegates from 35 Naga tribes participated in the 30th NSF General Conference.
