Date:

EKHON | UKHRUL, 1 Aug 2024: Petkhok music video featuring two power reel couple, Songashim Rungsung, official Friendship Ambassador and Mister Friendship International 2022 and Strela Luwang, a model and Femina Miss India 2023 2nd runner-up was officially released by Dr. Rock Soreingam, Assistant Professor, JNIMS on 31st July, 2024. It premiered to a loudest cheer from fans at the Ukhrul Townhall.

In his brief speech, Dr. Rock Soreingam praised the Tangkhul music industry and film industry that despite financial struggle they are working relentlessly to preserve our culture. While expressing his disappointment at the financial status, he urged the respective forums to look for avenues to expand their industry. He also stressed on the importance of collaboration outside the community as well as the importance of digital platform to garner viewership.

The vocals behind Petkhok are two Tangkhul powerhouse vocalists, MOC and Yung Yung while the music video is directed by Mazanmung AC and shot by Sorenzan Vashum and Okchar A Chihui.

With their good looks and visible chemistry, Petkhok MV saw Rungsung and Luwang in their finest act. With their au natural acting, they captured the imagination of the audience and make their story believable. There is that struggle for audience whether to concentrate on their strong chemistry or the vocals that are equally powerful. Perhaps this short glimpse into their acting prowess can herald new avenues for the two beauty icons with good fan base online.

As a newbie in the industry, it is to be seen that Rungsung is giving in his all not just to prove himself but to bring out the best work with one of the best team, that is young, competent and keen to grow. The outcome showed justice to Rungsung’s declaration that he gave his 100 percent to the music video.

Mazanmung AC, director of the MV said he spent three months to come up with the concept of the music video. Like a true creator, he worked on bringing a balance between the sad lyrics and the upbeat music, at the same time convey a message.

“If we show only the sad moments, the value of happy moments will be lost, and so, the first part showed happy little moments between the couple and later the desperation and frustration of heartbreak,” the young director shared.

While the team struggled with finance, he tried his best to focused on art rather than the budget and said that the entire team put in efforts to making a quality video.

The soulful vocals of MOC and Yung Yung and the poignant lyrics written by MOC is hauntingly beautiful. The lyrics of Petkhok paint a vivid picture of longing and yearning. According to MOC, it is based on his life’s experiences. Through the song, he reminisces youthful times spent around a petkhok, Tangkhul traditional bed made of a long single wood, and making memories of friendship and love that was lost in the passage of time and the hope that they will be together again in future.

Like many Tangkhul youngsters, MOC was a keen football player, but an injury led the singer song writer to explore music through friends. However, it was a heartbreaking phase that led him to write and compose music. While for Yung Yung, relatability is the key to writing songs. If his song is relatable to even one person, that is important to him, he said. What makes these two singer songwriters special are their use of rich Tangkhul vocabulary in their lyrics.

Coupled with the emotional lyrics and the powerful voice of MOC and Yung Yung, Petkhok is a moving and introspective song that showcases MOC’s talent as a singer-songwriter and proving yet again that Yung Yung can forever touch base with listeners with his unique vocal.

Overall, Petkhok is a complete package with the right amount of star quotient, right amount of creativity and a dream team to work with. A must watch!
