Hungpung, Ukhrul: The Kazipphung SHG Federation, Hungpung hosted the 2nd Ginger Festival at Kazipphung ground, showcasing the region’s ginger produce and highlighting the challenges faced by local farmers. The event’s theme, ‘Ginger Gold Rust,’ emphasized the potential and resilience of ginger farming in the region.

The festival featured over 10 varieties of ginger, displayed by 12 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the Kazipphung SHG Federation. YL Hungmayung, Secretary of Hungpung Village Authority, and Hubert Lunghar, President of THYSO graced the occasion as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively.
In his address, Hubert Lunghar acknowledged the struggles of local farmers, citing challenges such as low demand and limited market access. However, he expressed optimism, stating that better days are ahead and emphasizing the future potential of ginger farming in the region.
The festival aimed to promote ginger production and support local farmers, showcasing the crop’s importance to the local economy. The event highlighted the collective effort of the SHGs and the community in promoting sustainable agriculture and rural development.
