TKS Urges Govt Intervention for CUET-PG Aspirants

Date:

Ukhrul, Manipur | EKHON: The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), student apex body has appealed to the Manipur government to urgently intervene and assist students from Ukhrul district who were unable to appear for the Common University Entrance Test PG 2026 due to the prevailing law and order situation.

In a formal representation addressed to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul district, TKS highlighted the severe challenges faced by aspirants traveling along National Highway 202 between Ukhrul and Imphal.

According to the student body, the ongoing unrest and safety concerns along the highway disrupted movement, preventing many candidates from reaching their examination centres. The CUET-PG 2026 exams began on March 12, but several aspirants from Ukhrul district were unable to appear due to these constraints.

TKS noted that Ukhrul district, which has three colleges, has a significant number of higher education aspirants. Additionally, many Tangkhul Naga students studying outside the state had selected Imphal as their preferred examination centre. However, the absence of a local exam centre in Ukhrul forced candidates to travel under difficult and unsafe conditions.

The situation was further complicated as some candidates, despite opting for Imphal, were reassigned examination centres in Churachandpur, creating confusion and additional hardship.

Calling the situation “beyond the control of the students,” TKS urged the government to ensure that no candidate loses an academic year due to circumstances arising from the current crisis.

Among its key demands, the organization called for coordination with examination authorities to provide relief measures, including the possibility of a special or supplementary examination for affected candidates. It also requested the arrangement of safe transportation and security for students traveling to exam centres.

Importantly, TKS emphasized the need to establish an examination centre in Ukhrul district to prevent similar issues in the future.

“The student community forms the backbone of our society, and safeguarding their academic future during such challenging times is of utmost importance,” the representation stated.

The organization expressed hope for prompt government action to address the concerns and ensure fair opportunities for all affected aspirants.
