Ukhrul Launches ‘Litter-Free Campaign’ to Tackle Growing Waste Crisis

Date:

Ukhrul, Manipur | EKHON: In a significant step toward promoting environmental responsibility, Enfogal, in collaboration with Pettigrew College, Ukhrul and supported by PHED has launched Phase I of a town-wide Litter-Free Campaign under the compelling theme, “Be an Anti-Litter Hero.”

The inaugural programme saw the active participation of nearly 60 students and faculty members, marking the beginning of a sustained effort to combat littering in Ukhrul town. The campaign aims to mobilize citizens, especially the youth, to take ownership of their surroundings and contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment.

Addressing the gathering, Pettigrew College Principal Dr. Ringkahao Horam emphasised the urgency of maintaining cleanliness and environmental sustainability. He called upon students to lead by example, stressing that meaningful change begins with individual responsibility.

Organizers highlighted that the campaign will be implemented in four phases, each targeting different areas of the town to ensure wider outreach and impact. Activities will focus on raising awareness, encouraging behavioral change, and fostering community participation in waste management practices.

The initiative reflects a growing recognition of the environmental challenges posed by improper waste disposal in Ukhrul. By engaging students and the broader public, Enfogal and Pettigrew College aim to create a long-term civic consciousness.

Appealing to residents, the organizers urged citizens to refrain from littering and actively support the campaign’s mission.
