Date:

Ukhrul, 9 February 2025: In a remarkable observation, Lucy Rose Schoonhoven from London has likened the breathtaking beauty of Jessami village and the drive through Nagaland to the ancient Incan citadel of Machu Picchu in Peru. She described that the picturesque drive from Nagaland to Jessami Village is even more breathtaking than the iconic route to Machu Picchu.

She also expressed admiration for Jessami village, stating that if there were a Nagaland equivalent of the popular TV show “Britain’s Got Talent”, Jessami would undoubtedly take the top prize. This unexpected comparison highlights the unspoiled charm and natural splendor of Nagaland and Jessami village, raising its status as a must-visit destination.

Battle tour itinerary is carefully curated to provide tourists with a holistic and immersive experience including cultural performances, village tour, battle site tour among others.

She is one of several tourists that is currently visiting Jessami village for battlefield tour. Jessami Village in Ukhrul district, Manipur, is attracting tourists eager to explore its significant WWII history. The village was a crucial battleground between the Assam Regiment and Japanese forces during the war.

In 2024, descendants of WWII veterans recreated this pivotal moment with the “39 Hours Walk Campaign”, a 3-day trek from Jessami to Kohima, held from April 1-3. This event is set to become an annual tradition, with the tour continuing this year, allowing visitors to pay their respects and experience the village’s rich history.

In recent years, Jessami is rapidly gaining popularity as a premier tourist spot, particularly for battlefield tours and birdwatching enthusiasts. The recent inauguration of the Mrs. Hume’s Pheasant Reserve has transformed Jessami into a paradise for avid birdwatchers from across the country.

This surge in tourism has brought a welcome boost to the local economy, improving the livelihoods of the residents and ushering in a new era of growth and development for the region.
