Hungpung, Manipur: Hungpung Baptist Church in Ukhrul District, Manipur, is celebrating its Quasquicentennial (125th Anniversary) from January 15-17, 2026, under the theme ‘Heritage to Hope’. Hungpung Baptist church holds an important place in Manipur’s Christian history as one of the earliest churches in the region.

The church’s origins date back to September 29, 1901, when Rev. William Pettigrew baptized 12 Tangkhul men at Ngayira, Awungtang, Hunphun Village. The baptized individuals were Rumthao Honlei, Kashung Sangmayang, Samar Ramkaiphang, Shaiza Leishisan, Kasar Maninglum, AS Sakhayang, Chiphung Kaphunggui, S Mangaleng, Shangam Kasar, M Haora, K Mashokring, and SK Thiksha. Among them, three of these first believers – M Haora, K Mashokring, and SK Thiksha – were from Hungpung Village.
The celebration will witness notable preachers and exhorter including Rev. Losii K. Mao, Gen Secretary, Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC), Rev. Dr. Namseng R Marak (Secretary General, Council of Baptist Churches in North East India (CBCNE), Rev. Dr. YL Mingthing (Directpr Emeritus, Tangkhul Theological Association (TTA) and Rev. Dr. Gary choong, Dean of Academic Studies/ Senior Lecturer Ph.D (Biola), Baptist Theological Seminary, Singapore among others.
Earlier Hungpung Baptist Church celebrated its centennial milestone in Dec 2001, marking 100 years of faith. The Quasquicentennial celebration will honour the church’s legacy while embracing a hopeful future with faith, love, and joy.
