Ukhrul, May 31, 2023: Ramreichan Keishing, who was the former Vice President of Tangkhul Katamnao Long (TKS) was elected as the new president during the general election of the apex Tangkhul students body held here at TNL hall in Viewland, Ukhrul district for the tenure 2023-2026.
Ramreichan defeated his lone rival Yuimi Vashum, former General Secretary of TKS by a margin of 36 votes.
While a total of 460 votes were cast out of the total number of 564 registered representatives, Ramreichan Keishing secured 248 votes while Yuimi Vashum got 212 votes.
Ramreichan, who hails from Phungyar village in Kamjong district will be the 22nd president of the student body.
Omri Ningshen with 260 votes as against 195 by Ngachanring Muinao was a clear winner as the Vice President while Chithung Thanyui was voted as the new speaker of the student body.
Soon after the declaration of the result, a brief oath-taking and handing-over ceremony for the president-elect, vice president and speaker was held.
