Tangkhul Nagas in Delhi Seeks Peace After Unrest

Date:

New Delhi | EKHON:  The Tangkhul Naga Longnao, Delhi (TNLD) has issued a letter for peace, justice, unity, and constructive dialogue in the aftermath of the recent violent incidents in Hongbei village and the subsequent unrest in Ukhrul town. The organization expressed profound sorrow and regret over the loss of lives, acknowledging the deep impact on the community’s conscience. It also paid tribute to the deceased, recognizing their contributions, and extended condolences to the bereaved families.

The Tangkhul Nagas in the Capital has stressed the imperative need for justice that is not only impartial and transparent but also firmly rooted in truth. The organization emphasized that accountability, pursued with utmost integrity, is crucial to restoring and sustaining lasting peace and trust within the community.

The organization has further expressed considerable concern and dismay over the recent incident involving the heckling of the President of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL).

“Such conduct not only diminishes the dignity and sanctity of our institutions but also signals a disquieting deviation from the values of mutual respect, constructive dialogue, and communal unity that have guided our society thus far,” the letter stated.

The organization emphasized the importance of upholding the dignity and sanctity of institutions that embody the collective aspirations and values of the Tangkhul Naga people, urging all community members to refrain from actions that could undermine these revered institutions.

While TNLD acknowledged the stance adopted by Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) under the leadership of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) regarding non-cooperation with the Wung Tangkhul Region of NSCN-IM, and the rationale behind this position, it has sounded a note of caution, apprehending that internal divisions and rifts could potentially cause harmful consequences on the fragile fabric of communal harmony and cohesion.

Highlighting the importance of dialogue, TNLD called upon all sections of society, including students, leaders, intellectuals, elders, and youth, to engage in sincere introspection and responsible action. The statement stressed that the choices made now would shape the future of the Tangkhul community for generations.

“The path we choose today will shape the destiny of our generations to come. We must rise above impulses of anger and reaction and instead commit ourselves to building a society anchored in justice, unity, and peace,” it said.

Quoting Matt 12:25 from the Bible, TNLD reminded the community that division leads to downfall, urging members to rise above anger and commit to reconciliation and collective progress.

The letter conveyed an emotional appeal, emphasizing that the state of the community today will shape the inheritance of future generations.

“Let us remember that we are but custodians of this community, heirs to the sacrifices and wisdom of our forefathers and trustees for the future of our younger generation. What we preserve, nurture, and pass on will define not only our legacy but also their inheritance,” it stated.

The Tangkhul Naga organization conveyed a message of hope and called for courage, humility, and unity. It expressed hope that the recent tragedies would serve as a turning point toward healing and renewed commitment to shared values.
