UKHRUL/SENAPATI, Feb 19 – In a historic and grand coronation event, Th. Visale was crowned the new chief of northern Vafiimai in Senapati district of Manipur, ushering in a new era of peace and prosperity in the region.
The ceremony, attended by over 1,500 people, including headmen, village authorities, chairmen, dignitaries, and well-wishers including Minister Khashim Vashum, MLA Losii Dikho, MLA Kumosha and others from across the state and neighboring Nagaland, was a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the Poumai community.


Th. Visale, aged 37, was officially declared the new chief by Kh. Zirrai, headman of Laii village, in the presence of esteemed guests. Zirrai exhorted Visale to prioritize God and seek divine guidance in his leadership.
The ceremony featured traditional items, including a cultural procession, chanting of traditional tunes, and presentation of gifts. Th. Visale expressed gratitude to the villagers, headmen, and council members for their support and cooperation.
The unique tradition of Vafiimai having two chiefs, one for the northern and southern regions, reflects the village’s deeply rooted cultural affinity and rich heritage.
Dignitaries, including Dr. Alexander Pao, advisor to the Poumai Naga Chief Association, and Athikho, president of the Mao Council, offered words of wisdom and congratulations to the new chief.
Th. Visale’s ascension is seen as a moment of reckoning and jubilation for the Poumai community, and he has pledged to be a man of integrity and God-fearing leader.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from Th. Kapani Chapao, chairman of Laii village, who expressed gratitude to all attendees and well-wishers for making the event a grand success.
