Ukhrul, Manipur | EKHON: Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah has asked Manipur CM Yumnam Khemchand, backing the Sinakeithei Village Authority’s request for IRB Battalion deployment and monetary relief amid rising tensions in Manipur’s Ukhrul district. The village, surrounded by Kuki villages, faces security threats, with recent arson and abduction incidents.
MLA Ram Muivah was accompanied by DIG Ningsem Vashum, IPS, Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner Asish Das, IAS, and Brig PK Singh.
Muivah highlights the urgent need for security measures, citing Kuki militant movements near the village and the volatile Litan situation. The Sinakeithei Village Authority seeks IRB Battalion posting and financial aid, citing law and order concerns and added security responsibilities.
The village authority and MLA Muivah stress the urgency of the situation, citing the risk of escalation and threat to lives and property. The Manipur government’s response is awaited.
The Sinakeithei Village Authority has also written to the CM for immediate deployment of Police Personnel for Sinakeithei Police Station, Sanctioned in 2009. It stated that despite a 2009 government order sanctioning 58 police personnel posts for Sinakeithei Police Station in Ukhrul District, Manipur, the station remains non-operational due to lack of deployment. The infrastructure is ready, but no personnel have been posted, creating a security vacuum amidst rising tensions, the statement further reads.
Stationing police personnel at Sinakeithei Police Station would significantly boost security, deter incidents, and reassure villagers, given the village’s vulnerable location, the statement noted.
Meanwhile, the Foothills Naga Co-Ordination Committee (FNCC) has strongly condemned the Kuki armed group’s attacks on Sinakeithei village, Manipur, on February 23, 2026, citing grave human rights violations. It urged the government to take immediate action, investigate, and protect the community.
