Senapati, October 24, 2025: The United Naga Council (UNC) has declared a Genna, a traditional day of reverence and celebration, in honor of Th. Muivah’s civic reception at Tahamzam, Senapati, on October 29, 2025. The word “genna” is rooted in the Angami-Naga word “kenna,” which means “it is forbidden”.

As a mark of respect, all educational institutions and shops will remain closed, and community members are urged to abstain from economic and commercial activities. Instead, they are encouraged to participate in community gatherings and programs to celebrate the occasion.

The declaration, issued by the UNC in Manipur, calls upon community members to uphold the spirit of unity and solidarity, emphasizing the significance of the Genna as a symbol of unity, strength, and commitment to their quest for self-determination.

Th. Muivah, Ato Kilonser of the GPRN, will be honored at the civic reception, which is expected to draw large crowds. Th. Muivah’s historic homecoming to his birthplace in Somdal, Ukhrul district, on October 22, 2025, was met with overwhelming enthusiasm, as tens of thousands of people gathered to welcome him at the Ukhrul District headquarter town.

The Ato Kilonser is currently staying at the Gethsemane Prayer Hall in Somdal, where he will remain until October 28, 2025, before proceeding to Tahamzam, Senapati, for the civic reception on October 29, 2025.
