70th Wildlife Week Rally Held in Jessami Village

EKHON |UKHRUL: Ukhrul Forest Division, in partnership with Jessami Village, hosted a rally on October 2, 2024, to commemorate the 70th Wildlife Week celebrations from October 1-7, 2024 at Jessami village. The event held under the theme ‘Wildlife Conservation through Co-existence,’ emphasized the importance of coexisting with wildlife and preserving the natural balance.

The rally was led by Ranger Officer Siyo Kapai. It began at the Jessami Village Council Office and concluded at Jessami Higher Secondary School playground.

Around 95 participants from local schools and institutions joined forces. Slogans of “Wildlife Conservation through Co-existence” echoed through the village and awareness campaign on eco-friendly practices and wildlife preservation was held. The campaign was focused on educating villagers on wildlife conservation, encourage eco-friendly habits and preserving Jessami’s rich natural heritage.

The rally drew participation from a diverse range of teams, including forest department officials, police department personnel, executive members of Jessami Students’ Union, students from various schools and teaching faculties from local educational institutions.

Jessami Village has been spearheading an ambitious initiative since 2022, aggressively promoting Eco Tourism and Battlefield Tourism, leveraging its rich natural heritage and historical significance, Battle of Jessami, WWII.

Built on the principles of traditional sustainability and harmony with nature, this campaign has successfully attracted over 200 visitors, including domestic and international tourists, since September 2022.

This pioneering effort placed Jessami Village as a unique destination, blending cultural heritage, environmental management, and historical significance.
