Manipur Unrest: Situation tense but improving says Police

Ukhrul: Situation is tense in some places but it is improving in most places with almost no untoward incident during the last two days. State Police and Central Forces are continuously conducting patrolling, flag marches and cordon and search operations in vulnerable areas both in the hill and valley districts.

During the last 24(twenty-four) hours, State Police and Central forces conducted search operation in the vulnerable and fringe areas of both valley and hill districts. 112 empty cases of different calibres, 2(two) live rounds of 12 Bore gun, 12 empty cartridges of Barrel and 2 local made explosives were recovered during the search operation at Serou Mamang Leikai Part-III to Molbem Village.

On Monday, a combined team of IE district Police, 16 JAT Regiment & 4AR conducted search operation in the general area of Kairang Awang Leikai, Khomidok and Heikrumakhong. In the operation, five persons were arrested for their involvement in illegal selling of arms and ammunition which were snatched from Police. 03 arms, 21 ammunitions and two vehicles were recovered during the operation.

Operation was continued on Tuesday by a joint team of Imphal-East District Police, 16 JAT and 4 AR at Kairang area in which 07 arms and 218 ammunitions were recovered.

About 119 Nakas/ Checkpoints are installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police has detained 403 persons in connection with curfew violations in different districts of the State. The checking at the nakas/checkpoints are intensified round the clock in order to prevent unwanted incidents.

Movement of essential items is ensured along NH-37. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.

In Manipur, during last two days, 10 (ten) arms and 239 ammunitions have been recovered from Imphal East district. A total of 1110 arms, 13,941 ammunitions and 250 bombs of different kinds have been recovered till date.

Appeal is made to general public to extend all possible help in bringing normalcy in the state, to clarify any rumour by dialling rumour free number – 9233522822 of Central Control room, and also to return and deposit arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or security forces immediately.
