Ukhrul , May 30 | EKHON: The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) Working Committee has expressed concern over damage to National Highway 202 near Shangkai village in Ukhrul district’s Litan area.
In a press statement issued by its Media Cell, TNL claimed that sections of the highway had been dug up and alleged that individuals linked to Shangkai village were responsible. The group further suggested the incident may be connected to an indefinite blockade reportedly imposed by Kuki civil society organizations since May 13, 2026.
The organization called upon the Manipur state government to investigate the matter and take appropriate legal action if any individuals are found responsible for damaging public property. It urged authorities to identify those involved and ensure that legal procedures are followed.
The communiqué also raised broader concerns regarding issues such as land use, poppy cultivation, and security in the hill regions of Manipur. TNL alleged involvement of certain Kuki groups and cadres under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement in unlawful activities and called on the Ministry of Home Affairs to review the existing SoO arrangement.
The developments come amid ongoing ethnic and political tensions in Manipur, where conflicting narratives from various groups have further deepened the crisis.
