Archbishop Dr. Linus Neli receives Pallium from Pope Francis

EKHON | UKHRUL 1 Aug, 2024: The Catholic Church in Manipur is delighted as their Chief Shepherd Most Rev. Dr. Linus Neli D.D, Archbishop of Imphal, Manipur is bestowed with the honour of Pallium by His Excellency Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Mantripukhri, Imphal on 31st July 2024.

The solemn religious ceremony started at 5.00 pm with the Holy mass presided by Archbishop Linus Neli. Before the investiture with Pallium, Archbishop Linus made the profession of Faith and took the Oath of Fidelity before being conferred the pallium. Most Rev. Dominic Lumon, Archbishop Emeritus of Imphal in his homily explains the importance of Pallium and also the functionaries of this sacred offices.

Pallium is a liturgical vestment, a woollen bestowed by the Pope on an Archbishop, consisting of a narrow circular band placed round the shoulder with a short lappet hanging from front and back. It is worn by archbishops, it typifies their participation in the supreme pastoral power of the pope, who concedes it to them for their proper church provinces. The solemn Eucharistic celebration was concelebrated by 74 priests of the Archdiocese. The suffragran diocese was represented by Fr. Jacob Chiralel, the Chancellor of the Diocese of Kohima.

After the pallium ceremony, a short felicitation program was organized to greet His Excellency Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal and to congratulate Most. Rev. Dr. Linus Neli. Noted dignitaries present were Ram Muivah, MLA 44 AC Ukhrul, Francis Ngajokpa, former Cabinet Minister, leaders of Civil societies and civil officers.
