Ukhrul, Aug 19 | EKHON: A serious allegation of attempted murder in broad daylight, allegedly committed in the presence of police personnel and government officials, has triggered outrage in Ukhrul’s Sihai Khunou, with the village community demanding immediate accountability for both the alleged attackers and the authorities accused of delaying action.
The incident, according to the Sihai Khunou Public Council, occurred at around 12:15 p.m. on May 12, 2026, inside the village community hall during the conduct of an MGNREGS election. The council alleged that the victims were suddenly attacked with stones and wooden bars, sustaining lacerated wounds and other injuries.
The council has raised particular concern over the alleged delay in registering the FIR. Although a complaint was reportedly entered under GD No. 15/UKL-PS/2026 on May 12, the FIR- No. 06(06) 2026 UKL-PS under Sections 117, 131 and 3(5) BNS, was allegedly registered only on June 7, 2026.
The Public Council has described the alleged attack and subsequent police handling of the case as a grave matter requiring urgent scrutiny, particularly because police and officials were reportedly present when the violence occurred.
It has demanded the immediate apprehension and prosecution of all persons allegedly involved, along with a formal internal investigation into the alleged delay and the manner in which the case was handled.
The council also alleged that the victims continued to face threats and psychological distress following the incident, and urged the authorities to ensure their safety while conducting a fair and impartial investigation.
