Gadkari Directs Priority Action on NH-202, NH-102A, Orders Ukhrul Spot Inspection

Date:

New Delhi, August 12 |EKHON: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has directed the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to accord priority to NH-202 and NH-102A and instructed MoRTH Director Narendra Sharma to visit Ukhrul at the earliest, conduct a spot enquiry and submit a report for remedial action, Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah said.

Muivah called on Gadkari on Wednesday and apprised him of the poor condition of the two national highways and the prolonged delays in their construction and maintenance. Gadkari, he said, gave a patient hearing and expressed concern over delays in handing over land to NHIDCL, particularly for the Ukhrul Bypass and Shangshak–Tengnoupal sectors.

The minister also took note of the delays caused by High Court intervention in the Lower Hungpung–Choithar stretch of NH-202 and the Shangshak–Tengnoupal stretch of NH-102A, which have resulted in prolonged hardship for the people.

Muivah had submitted a detailed representation to Gadkari on August 7, highlighting the major landslide near Phaibung on NH-102A, the decade-long delay in double-laning the Finch Corner–Tengnoupal sector, and the poor condition of the Lower Hungpung–Choithar stretch of NH-202.

In the representation, he urged urgent landslide mitigation measures and sought resumption and expediting of pending highway works.

Gadkari’s directive for priority action and an immediate field inspection is expected to facilitate a first-hand assessment of the road conditions and help address the bottlenecks delaying the projects.
