Pottery making competition to encourage youngsters | Longpi Luita Phanit

EKHON | UKHRUL: As Longpi village in Ukhrul district celebrate Luita Phanit, seed sowing festival, it hosted different culture related competitions to bring the spirit of festival among the community.

With Machihan Sasa, who is the native of Longpi, winning the Padma Shri, country’s highest civilian award for Longpi black pot, Longpi Kajui organized pottery making competition with its signature black clay to further encourage youngsters in the art of pottery making.

The competition saw good participation from the village community. The competition was won by Phaningmi Sasa followed by Thotreiyo Sharon and Steel Sareng in the second and third position respectively. Other competitions included folk song and dance competition, tug of war etc.

Luita or Luira festival is a seed sowing festival and commenced the beginning of annual agricultural cycle. It is a new year festivap for the Tangkhul Nagas.
