Kamjong| July 19, 2025: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, accompanied by his wife Jyoti Bhalla, received a heartfelt welcome at the vibrant foothills of Mount Wuya Kachui in Shingcha village, Kamjong district. The couple were guests of honor at the 7th edition of the Wuyawon Festival, a celebration dedicated to the bloom of the rare pink-hued Wuyawon flower that carpets the mountainside each July.

In his brief speech, Governor Bhalla praised the breathtaking natural beauty of Kamjong, envisioning a tourism circuit that would spotlight neighboring villages with their waterfalls, scenic terrain, and refreshing climate. Commending Shingcha’s continued efforts to host the festival year after year, he emphasized the significance of grassroots involvement in elevating regional tourism.
The three-day event, themed “Grow with Nature,” was inaugurated by Kamjong DFO Napolean Rongmei. Festivities included folk songs and dances, lively competitions such as pork eating and bamboo pole climbing, folk tale storytelling, and an enchanting bonfire evening.
Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing reassured Kamjong residents by announcing that the upcoming 8th edition of the Wuyawon Festival will be sponsored by the Eastern Border Area Development Authority (EBADA). He highlighted the necessity of unified land laws to reduce disputes and foster sustainable development.
Governor Bhalla later trekked Mount Wuya Kachui for a panoramic view of the region before proceeding to Kamjong district headquarters. There, he interacted with Tangkhul and Kuki community leaders and reviewed development plans at the SDO office. He also inspected the construction of Kamjong Mini Secretariat.
Miss Shirui Lily 2025, Esme Singh Shaiza, and runner-up Disti Athokpam also graced the festival as ambassadors, adding glamour to the eco-cultural celebration.
