Naga Bodies Urge Early Solution, Reaffirm Support for Framework Agreement

Date:

Ukhrul, August 3 | EKHON: Declaring that the prolonged delay in implementing the Indo-Naga Framework Agreement is a dishonor to the historical and political rights of the Naga people, major Naga civil society organizations from the undivided Ukhrul district on Monday urged the Government of India to demonstrate the political will to implement the agreement in letter and spirit and deliver an early, honorable and acceptable political solution.

The appeal was made through a public declaration issued during the observance of the 11th anniversary of the signing of the Indo-Naga Framework Agreement. Reaffirming their full support for the agreement, the organizations said the Naga people had waited patiently and prayerfully for more than a decade and stressed that the time had come to translate the mutually agreed principles into concrete action.

The declaration stated that, after 11 years of waiting, the indefinite pendency of the final settlement sends a message of dishonor and disrespect to the historical and political rights of the Naga people. It appealed to the Government of India to exercise the indispensable political will and sincerity needed to implement the Framework Agreement, expressing hope that doing so would usher in an era of peace and harmonious coexistence between the two entities.

During the observance, participants also displayed placards carrying messages reflecting their aspirations and concerns, including; We want Early solution, We Support Framework Agreement, We don’t want militarization, Combing operation are not the solution, Stop Proxy war among others.

The public declaration was jointly endorsed by Sword Vashum, President of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL); Kashung Tennyson, President of the Tangkhul Naga Awunga Long (TNAL); Thingreiphi Lungharwoshi, President of the Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL); Ramreichan Keishing, President of the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS); and Ringphapam Kasar, President (In-charge) of the Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL).
