Ukhrul, Manipur | EKHON: The book ‘The Other Side of Manipur’ by Ngachonmi Chamroy, activist, was released by Vareiyo Shatsang, General Secretary of United Naga Council (UNC) on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Wolorim Manor, Hungpung, Ukhrul district.Friday, February 20, 2026 in Hungpung, Ukhrul district. The book provides a critical analysis of the deep-seated structural imbalances that led to the violent eruption in Manipur in 2023. Chamroy emphasizes the need for restructuring the system of government, advocating for decentralization of power to local institutions and grassroots democracy.
In his book, Chamroy traces the historical, political, and administrative fault lines that accumulated over decades, contributing to the breakdown of order in Manipur. He proposes a path toward resolution, highlighting the need for structural reforms, inclusive political dialogue, and confidence-building measures to rebuild trust.
“In ‘The Other Side of Manipur’, I’ve highlighted Article 371C, a provision often shrouded in confusion and debate on social media. To address this, it’s essential to revisit and understand the Hill Areas Committee, a constitutional provision that warrants attention for restructuring efforts”, asserted the author.
Chamroy, with over three decades of activism devoted to indigenous rights and structural justice, has been a strong advocate for empowering local communities. His work serves as a roadmap for sustainable peace in Manipur, offering valuable insights into the region’s complex issues.
Padmashri Guru Reuben Mashangva, a close associate of Ngachonmi Chamroy, presented an ‘Ode to Ngachonmi Chamroy’ with a song titled ‘Song of the Hornbill’.
Seth Shatsang, an activist, aptly summed up the book’s essence, saying, “This book tells about the present of government and absence of governance.”
