Mt Horeb, Myanmar, July 23 | EKHON: In a significant development reflecting deepening divisions within the Naga political movement, the NSCN/GPRN Eastern Flank has announced the formation of a Provisional Government as an interim arrangement until a permanent government is established. According to a statement issued after an Extraordinary Joint Emergency Meeting held on July 21, the provisional body will be headed by Ikato I. Chishi Swu as Chairman, with several senior members and advisers entrusted with leading the new structure.

The announcement came as the faction also declared recent expulsion orders against several of its senior leaders “null and void” and criticised the NSCN/GPRN leadership’s approach to negotiations with the Government of India, highlighting growing internal differences within the organisation.

The Extraordinary Joint Emergency Meeting of civil national workers and Naga Army officers was chaired by Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Hs. Ramsan.

Some National Workers were enlisted and empowered to form the Provisional Government. With Ikato I Chishi Swu as Chairman, Lieut. Gen. Retd. Hs. Ramsan -VC, Lieut. Col. Retd. Victor Angami, Lieut. Gen. A. Raman – MM, MC, Brig. Detail Dani, M. Angyo Jacob Jingseya as Members and Ngaranmi Jagoi and Merry Ramsan and Rev. Vitovi Yeputho as Advisors.

The group said the meeting adopted several resolutions, including reaffirming its commitment to its founding principles and rejecting recent disciplinary actions taken against several senior leaders. It alleged that the expulsions were politically motivated and intended to silence dissent within the organization.

The statement also criticized the NSCN/GPRN leadership’s reported submission of a document referred to as the “Competencies” to the Government of India, claiming it departed from the organization’s stated political position and contradicted provisions of its manifesto and constitution.

The faction further alleged that the spirit of the ceasefire agreement with the Government of India had effectively ceased following a breach of the 2015 Framework Agreement.

The statement also called on Naga national workers to unite under a common political platform. The developments comes at a time when the long-running peace process between Naga groups and the Government of India remains unresolved.
