Ocean Lounge Assault: TSL condemns, urges for fitting punishment as per law

EKHON | UKHRUL: Following the sexual harassment of a young girl and brutal assault of six men by armed militants at Ocean Lounge, Khuman Lampak, Imphal earlier on Friday, the Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL) has strongly condemned the incident in a press release.

The press statement issued by the President TSL Thingreiphy Lungharwo mentioned how a young girl, Leishithem Makung of Loushing Village was sexually harassed at her workplace and six of her friends who came to her rescue were brutally assaulted with guns by armed gang members of UNLF (Pambei group). One of her friends Mr. Sochihan Hungyo of Kashung village sustained a critical head injury and was hospitalized. All of them were subjected to physical and mental trauma.

Such indecent behavior and assault to women is not an isolated case in Imphal, the state capital of Manipur and raises serious concerns of the prevailing law and order situation. Cruelty to and attack on women’s modesty have no place in civilized society and should be condemned by all, the press statement further said.

The Tangkhul Shanao Long vehemently urges the concern authority to book the culprit involved in the incident and give befitting punishment as per the law. We appeal to all women’s organization in the state to stand together for justice on crime against women and to extend cooperation to the concerned authority. We also earnestly appeal to members of the armed groups and organizations not to anger women and to refrain from such a barbaric act in the near future and justice prevail to them, the statement concluded.
