Imphal, Manipur | EKHON: Ram Muivah, Ukhrul MLA, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of veteran public figure AS Arthur and Khatingla Keishing, describing their deaths as a significant loss for the state.
In a heartfelt condolence message, Muivah paid tribute to Arthur, a former Minister in Manipur and former Secretary in the Government of Nagaland, who passed away on May 2 at the age of 99. Recalling a personal family connection, Muivah shared how Arthur played a crucial role in saving the life of his uncle in the early 1950s by escorting him nearly 400 kilometers to a hospital in Assam for urgent medical treatment at a time when specialized care was unavailable in Manipur.
Muivah also remembered Arthur as a humble and generous leader, noting that he had the privilege of working under him in 1997 when Arthur served as his Minister. He described Arthur as a mentor to many young and deserving students and said his long life of service and compassion would continue to inspire future generations. “With his passing, not only the Tangkhul community but the entire state of Manipur has lost a towering personality,” Muivah stated.
The MLA also mourned the demise of Khatingla Keishing, wife of former Chief Minister and Member of Parliament Rishang Keishing. He described her as a widely respected maternal figure in Manipur, admired across communities for her quiet strength and support for her husband.
“Aunty Khatingla was a pillar of strength and an inspiration to many. Her life and contributions, alongside those of her husband, deserve to be remembered and celebrated,” Muivah said.
Muivah extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved families of both Arthur and Khatingla Keishing, praying for strength and comfort for their loved ones during this time of grief.
