Ukhrul, August 8 | EKHON: In observance of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples on August 9, Tuithā is set to host a public conversation on Indigenous identity, rights, and belonging, with a focus on identify as Tangkhul or Naga in the present day. The event will be held from 12-2 pm at the TBG 125 Hall, Mission Compound Ukhrul.
The event aims to create a space for reflection on the challenges and responsibilities faced by Indigenous communities today, and on how histories, values, and aspirations can be carried meaningfully into the future.
Tuithā has invited the wider community to participate with “presence, questions, and curiosity,” emphasizing that the dialogue is open to all.
The featured speaker is Chonchuirinmayo Luithui Pheiray, an Indigenous rights advocate, writer, and poet. She currently serves as the Centre Administrator at the One Stop Centre in Ukhrul under the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
The commemoration comes amid growing conversations across the region on cultural preservation, self-determination, and the rights of Indigenous communities.
Organizers said the event seeks to encourage intergenerational dialogue and community engagement on issues central to Indigenous identity in the 21st century.
