Ukhrul, Manipur – “Ukhrul Press Club’s inauguration heralds a new era for local journalism,” said R. Lester Makang, President of Ukhrul District Working Journalist Association (UDWJA). The ceremony was graced by Sword Vashum, President of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), and signifies a major step for the media fraternity in Ukhrul district.
Sword Vashum pronounced a blessing for the new Press Club, invoking divine guidance and prosperity for its endeavors. The ceremony was attended by members of the Ukhrul District Working Journalist Association (UDWJA) and distinguished guests, including Akui L. Shimray, Deputy General Manager of MSPDCL, Ukhrul.Â
Established in 1998, the Ukhrul District Working Journalist Association (UDWJA) has been a driving force in local journalism. Despite their dedication, members faced challenges due to the lack of a common space. The new press club will enable them to collaborate, exchange ideas, and work collectively towards creating positive change in the community.
‘We were initially clueless about furnishing the space without funds, but the generosity of the individuals has been instrumental in setting us up and getting things moving,’ expressed Lester Makang, UDWJA President, highlighting the Ukhrul press fraternity’s gratitude for the supporters.
The Ukhrul District Working Journalist Association (UDWJA) extends its heartfelt gratitude to the individuals for their invaluable support in establishing the Ukhrul Press Club.
