Ukhrul to Host Solidarity March and Candlelight Vigil for Slain Civilians

Date:

Ukhrul, Manipur | EKHON: A solidarity march and candlelight vigil is set to be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Ukhrul Headquarters Ground to honor the memory of two Tangkhul Naga civilians killed on April 18 by the Kuki militants at TM Kasom and to call for peace and justice.

The event is being jointly organized by Tangkhul civil society organizations (CSOs), bringing together community members in a collective expression of grief and solidarity. The program is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM with a public gathering, followed by a solidarity walk.

Participants will assemble at Mini Secretariat and Awontang before proceeding in a march toward Ukhrul Headquarters Ground. Organizers stated that the event aims to peacefully highlight the need for justice for the victims while promoting unity and calm amid ongoing tensions in the region.

The candlelight vigil, to be held at the conclusion of the march, is expected to draw large participation from residents, leaders, and student bodies, reflecting widespread concern over the recent killings and the broader security situation.

Organizers have urged all participants to maintain discipline and ensure that the march remains peaceful and respectful.
