Ukhrul, Manipur | EKHON: The NH 202 Development Committee, representing Hungpung, Shangshak Phunghon, Shangshak Khullen, and Hatha villages in Ukhrul, Manipur, has decided to proceed with a 72-hour NH-202 highway blockade from February 4-6, citing government inaction. The proposed blockade will start from midnight of February 4 to midnight of February 6.
“We submitted an application to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ukhrul on January 28, setting a seven-day timeline. Having received no update, we are forced to initiate action,” said Edmund Hungshi, Secretary of the Committee at a press conference held at the Press Club of Ukhrul, Wino Tang.
The proposed blockade is over the stalled project of Package-3 and Package-4, covering Finch Corner to Choithar village, and non-payment of land compensation. The villagers demand release of unpaid land compensation and confirmed project execution timelines.

“We will block NH-202 for 72 hours and lock the NHIDCL office in Ukhrul,” the committee added. Thareiwung Marak, Headman of Hatha, emphasized the highway’s importance, stating it’s a “lifeline for the entire Tangkhul community.”
The committee appeals for cooperation, with Hungshi saying, “I request every individual to show cooperation as it is for the benefit of all.” The committee, formed in December 2025, has resorted to the blockade as a last resort, added Convenor Yangmi Khapai.
The road’s poor condition has affected Ukhrul and Kamjong Districts, and the committee seeks support from apex bodies and Civil Society Organizations to achieve their goal of bringing development to the region. Authorities are urged to complete necessary works promptly, with warnings that opposition to demands will be met with action.
