Kohima, June 11, 2026 | EKHON:The Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) has condemned the killing of six Naga hostages as a “crime against humanity,” describing the act as barbaric and calling for justice and accountability.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the organization said it was “utterly shocked” by the discovery of the mortal remains of the six hostages, alleging that the condition of the bodies reflected extreme brutality by their captors. The incident follows a hostage crisis that emerged after May 13 amid ongoing tensions involving Naga and Kuki communities. According to the NPMHR, the six victims were innocent civilians caught in a conflict situation.
The human rights organization said it had consistently appealed for restraint throughout the hostage crisis and urged Naga communities not to take actions that could endanger innocent lives. It emphasized that Nagas should uphold humanitarian values and not descend to the level of those who disregard human dignity and moral standards.
The NPMHR also highlighted the earlier release of 14 Kuki hostages, stating that they were freed unharmed and in good health. The organization said it had hoped for a similar outcome for the six Naga hostages but was instead confronted with evidence of severe violence.
Calling on people across communities, races, and countries to denounce such acts, the NPMHR urged collective condemnation of violence against civilians and demanded that those responsible be held accountable.
“Justice must be done in order for their souls to rest in peace and for the grieving and bereaved families,” the statement said.
The organization further appealed to Naga people to remain united during the difficult period, urging them to stand together with courage, dignity, and honour.
