Tangshang, June 17 | EKHON: The NSCN (Eastern Flank) has slammed the Hebron leadership for compromising core principles of the 2015 Framework Agreement with the Government of India, reaffirming its own commitment to Naga sovereignty.
In a statement released on June 16, the Eastern Flank said it remains committed to the historical foundations of the Naga political movement, including the 1929 memorandum submitted to the Simon Commission, the declaration of Naga independence in 1947, and the 1951 Naga plebiscite.
The group alleged that the Government of India has “backtracked and betrayed” the Framework Agreement by refusing to recognize a separate Naga flag and constitution, issues that have remained central to negotiations between the NSCN and New Delhi.

The statement also criticized the leadership at Hebron, accusing it of failing to take decisive political steps during critical phases of the peace process and engaging in “meaningless, endless talks” despite repeated indications from the Government of India that discussions on a separate flag and constitution would not continue.
The statement also focused on internal disputes within the NSCN. The Eastern Flank defended the role of retired Lieutenant General Hs. Ramsan and other leaders who were previously removed from positions within the organization, claiming that disciplinary actions taken against them were based on false accusations. According to the statement, many cadres and officers in the eastern regions continued to support Ramsan’s leadership despite official actions taken against him.
The group further accused former Gen. Anthony Ningkhan Shimray and current military leaders of attempting to weaken the Eastern Flank and alleged that operations had been carried out against its members. It cited several incidents, including events in Homalin and Somra, which it claimed reflected coordination with forces opposed to the Eastern Flank’s political position.
The statement also referred to the killing of four Eastern Flank cadres at Hongbei village on March 28, 2026, alleging that the incident occurred despite ongoing efforts at reconciliation. The group welcomed the non-cooperation directive issued by the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and other Tangkhul civil society organizations against the Wung-Tangkhul Region (NSCN/GPRN) until justice is delivered for the deceased cadres.
On the broader political front, the Eastern Flank rejected proposals that it says would integrate Naga institutions into the constitutional framework of India. It specifically objected to provisions reportedly allowing Naga representation in the Indian Parliament, linking Naga electoral institutions with the Election Commission of India, and requiring constitutional recognition through Indian state structures.
It said, that rejecting this compromised and surrendered position, and the meaningless, endless talks with the Government of India, Ikato I Chishi Swu and Victor Angami have taken the right decision to join hands with us to save the nation from another surrender.
The organization maintained that any political settlement must remain faithful to the “letter and spirit” of the Framework Agreement and warned against a surrender of Naga national rights.
The statement also reiterated the group’s opposition to the creation of a Kuki homeland within areas claimed as Nagalim, declaring that there could be no compromise on the issue.
Calling on Nagas and national workers to remain steadfast, the Eastern Flank urged unity around what it described as the original principles of the Naga political movement and the Framework Agreement, insisting that reconciliation can only be achieved through adherence to those principles.
