Ukhrul, August 21 | EKHON: The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has strongly condemned the use of force by security personnel against peaceful protesters at Namdilong, Kanglatombi, on August 20, asserting that four people sustained serious injuries when a sit-in demanding justice for slain Liangmai and Lanka Naga villagers was disrupted.
According to the TNL, the protesters, including victim families, friends, well-wishers and members of the Naga community, were holding a peaceful demonstration when a combined team of security forces led by the Rapid Action Force (RAF) allegedly fired tear-gas shells and resorted to lathi-charging at around noon.
The injured are Wikhonliu, 36, wife of Phengrongwi, who was among the six Liangmai Nagas murdered at Leilon Vaiphei; Wilobou, 33, son of Masingbou; Chunwibou, son of Paojengbou; and Masenwangbou, 44.
In a statement, the TNL said it “unequivocally condemns” the excesses by the security forces and maintained that the organisation would not compromise its solidarity with the victim families of Konsakhul and Lanka Naga villages.
The organisation also reiterated its demand for justice in connection with the abduction and killing of six Liangmai Nagas at Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13, 2026. It alleged that despite the passage of more than three months and demands from various sections of society, the principal accused and other alleged perpetrators remain at large.
The TNL further expressed concern over the continued attacks on Naga villages and reiterated its support for the demands of the United Naga Council concerning the prevailing situation in the hill districts of Manipur.
The TNL Working Committee said the Naga community would remain steadfast in supporting the cause of the Liangmai Nagas and the families seeking justice for those killed.
