New Delhi, Sept 5 | EKHON: The inaugural All Naga Volleyball Championship 2026, organised by the Tangkhul Naga Society Delhi (TNSD) in memory of Late Grinder Muivah, concluded at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Saturday, with Gurgaon Naga Boys and Zeme emerging champions in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.
The four-day championship, which began on September 2, brought together 16 teams — 11 in the men’s category and five in the women’s category — for a series of competitive matches. The tournament was held despite interruptions caused by rain.
In the men’s final, Gurgaon Naga Boys defeated TKLD to claim the title. The Maring team finished third after defeating Poumai in the third-place playoff.
In the women’s final, Zeme prevailed over TKLD in a closely contested match to take the championship. Anal secured third place after defeating Poumai in the playoff.
The sporting event followed a conference at the Shankarlal Auditorium, University of Delhi, North Campus, on September 2. The conference, themed “From Playground to Nation Building: The Role of Sports in Shaping Naga Society,” examined the wider role of sports in community development and nation building.
The closing ceremony featured a presidential address by Kahorngam Zimik and a special musical performance by singer-songwriter Eno Bem Khuvung. Rev. Fr. Joseph M. Thohrii, a research scholar at the School of Social Sciences, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Delhi NCR, also addressed the gathering.
The programme was hosted by Th. Kolunii Shuru and Hom Singli Mayirnao. It began with the singing of Amazing Graceand an opening prayer by Yurmi Chamroy, Home Missionary, Tangkhul Baptist Church Delhi. Pastor Caleb M. Pamei of the Zeliangrong Christian Fellowship, Delhi, delivered the Benediction, while TNSD Vice-President Wungram Ngalung proposed the vote of thanks.
The championship sought to provide a common sporting platform for Naga communities in Delhi while promoting fellowship, discipline and engagement through sport.
