Date:

EKHON | April 27, 2025: The Ukhrul Forest Division and ENFOGAL (Environmental Force at Grassroot Level) collaborated on an environmental awareness camp at Paorei, Shirui village, Ukhrul district, to promote conservation in the scenic region. Several bird and nature enthusiasts participated at the event.

The camping trip promoted environmental awareness and conservation skills among the participants, and it provided a unique platform for individuals to connect with nature and learn about the rich biodiversity of the region.

The one-day and one-night event, held amidst the breath-taking landscapes of the Shirui hills, offered participants a range of engaging activities designed to instill a sense of responsibility towards the environment. These activities included guided nature walks, bird watching sessions, interactive workshops on forest & wildlife conservation with Range Forest Officers Nongmaithem Bikram Singh and K. Siyo, and discussions on the importance of preserving the endangered Shirui Lily and its habitat. During the birdwatching sessions, rare species such as the Indian Golden Oriole, Velvet-fronted Nuthatch, Black Bulbul, Oriental Turtle Dove, and Mrs. Hume’s Pheasant were sighted, adding excitement and significance to the experience.

Divisional Forest Officer, Ukhrul Forest Division, Laishram Gitla emphasized the significance of such initiatives in fostering a deeper understanding of ecological balance and the need for community involvement in conservation efforts. Representatives from ENFOGAL highlighted the enthusiastic participation of individuals from various backgrounds, indicating a growing awareness and commitment towards environmental protection in the region.

The camping experience at Paorei not only offered an opportunity to witness the natural beauty of Ukhrul but also served as an educational and inspirational platform. Participants were left with enhanced knowledge about the local flora and fauna, a greater appreciation for the delicate ecosystem, and a renewed commitment to sustainable practices.

The Ukhrul Forest Division and ENFOGAL expressed their gratitude to all the participants, local communities, and stakeholders who contributed to the success of this camping event. They look forward to organizing similar initiatives in the future to further promote environmental conservation and eco-tourism in the region.
