KOHIMA, Sept. 13 | EKHON: Angh, a feature film set in 1960s Nagaland and written and directed by Theja Rio, has been selected for the Platform Competition at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2026. It is the only Indian film in the section this year.
The Platform section is a juried competition focused on directorial vision and distinctive storytelling. From the 2026 edition, the winner of the Platform Competition will automatically qualify for the Academy Awards’ International Feature Film category.
Theja Rio, in his social media platform, said , “I feel both incredibly emotional and deeply honoured to share that our film #Angh has been selected for the Platform Competition at the Toronto International Film Festival 2026. Angh is a story of a people navigating the fragile passage from an ancestral past to an uncertain future. Set in Nagaland, my home, it is an intensely personal film rooted in the memories, culture and stories that have shaped me.”
Set in Nagaland in the 1960s, Angh marks Rio’s move from short films to feature filmmaking. His earlier short films have been screened at international film festivals.
TIFF 2026, the festival’s 51st edition, is scheduled to take place in Toronto from September 10 to 20.
