Manipur CM Meets US Envoy Sergio Gor, Tourism and Development in Focus

IMPHAL, Sept 11 | EKHON: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Thursday met US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor at the CM Secretariat in Mantripukhri, with tourism and development emerging as key areas of discussion.

Gor described Manipur as a “stunning place” with exceptional natural beauty and welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on the development of Northeast India. He also enquired about tourist arrivals in the state and the prospects of promoting Manipur as a tourism destination.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister invited the US envoy to the Manipur Sangai Festival 2026, highlighting the state’s rich cultural diversity and tourism potential. Khemchand said India is a “mini world” and Manipur a “mini India”, home to 36 communities.

The Chief Minister also identified tourism and allied sectors as promising areas for development and greater engagement.

Gor was accompanied by US Consul General in Kolkata Kathy Giles-Diaz, while the Chief Minister was accompanied by Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur and other senior state officials.

The Ambassador also spoke of the “special bond” between Prime Minister Modi and US President Donald Trump, saying the relationship goes beyond a conventional PM-President equation.
