Neiphiu Rio attends Log Drum Pulling ceremony at Longwa

Date:

EKHON | UKHRUL: Even as the Ministry of Home Affairs decided to scrape the Free Movement Regime (FMR) between India and Myanmar, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio along with Chief Anghs from Arunachal Pradesh and Myanmar attended the momentous Log Drum Pulling Ceremony at Longwa, Mon district of Nagaland.

CM Rio also congratulated the people of Longwa village on the occasion that celebrated the historical practices.

CM Rio took to his social media platform X to share his thoughts saying it is, “An honour to attend a momentous Log Drum Pulling Ceremony at Longwa, Mon. A historic event, where Chief Anghs from Arunachal Pradesh and Myanmar graced the ceremony. Such an occasion, which celebrates our historical practices, indeed, transcends man-made boundaries.”

“Extraordinary skill is required to carve a log drum. It represents and manifests the beliefs of age-old traditions Naga tribesmen stood for. Congratulations and best wishes to the people of Longwa village. May we grow from strength to strength in unity and harmony,” he further stated.

Mention may be made that Longwa village’s chief angh Tonyei Phawang has openly opposed the Centre’s decision to scrap the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and erect fence along the India-Myanmar border citing that it would divide the people socially and culturally.

The Chief had vehemently declared, “Especially in the case of Longwa village, since we are scattered in both the sides, our separation by erection of border fence is something we never thought of and in any circumstances, we will not accept the idea.”
