EKHON | DELHI: Member of Parliament Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs and Education, Govt. of India graced the Silver Jubilee celebration of Thawaijao Hungpung Shimkhur Kazip Delhi (THSKD) on Saturday, 7th October, 2023 at Community Centre, Hauz Khas, New Delhi. Hungpung is part of the headquarter of Ukhrul district in Manipur.

In his speech, the BJP MP shared about the close ties between Hungpung and Meitei royal families. And even as they stay far away from home, he urged the gathering to emphasise on preserving the cultural and traditional values of the Tangkhul Nagas.

Expressing his appreciation on organizing such event, Dr. Ranjan Singh advised the people to harness and nurture love, peace and compassion through a gathering like this.

Celebrated under the theme ‘Ilong Phamei Yameisa’ many elders and members from the community and special invitees attended the 25th Anniversary of the THSKD.

Asai Ngakuimiza, social worker congratulated the organizers saying Hungpung is one of the first villages to celebrate Silver Jubilee in a metropolitan city and it has set an example by organizing such a grand get-together.

Meanwhile, CS George Theimi, Senior Editor of All Lawyer Media and an elder of Thawaijao Hungpung shared a brief background on how Thawaijao Hungpung Shimkhur Kazip Delhi started 25 years ago by few concerned elders.

He said that initially, like any shimkhur kazip (family gathering) in metropolitan cities, Hungpung Kazip started as an annual gathering with the initiative of few elders and leaders from the village in the month of October and it grew with time.

As the elder in the community, Theimi encouraged the youngsters to actively engage and participate in the activities and events happening in the city for exposure and experience. He also released the Jubilee Souvenir.

While the Kazip is in its 25th year, as per the Census done by the THSKD, former Manipur Legislator Samuel Risom was the first member from Hungpung to land in India’s Capital in 1982. Since then the number has increased. At present, there are around 230 members with a yearly increase on an average of 25-30 freshers joining the Capital for educational as well as work purpose.

The event saw brilliant performances from artistes like Pingmeiso Khapai, Yungyung Khamrang, Somaya Rumthao among others. It also witnessed Traditional Tangkhul Naga wrestling performance by Hormishang HW and Osbert Hungshi, and physical fitness display by Kapingshang Khapai, winner of Muscle Mania India 2017 & Mr. Delhi 2 times.
