Wilders Club hosted 1st ever 3×3 basketball tournament

EKHON | UKHRUL: In its sixth edition of Winter Basketball Tournament, Wilders Club hosted first ever 3×3 Open Basketball Challenge at Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, Hungpung. Hosted over two days, 15 teams, including 11 Mens and 4 women teams took part in the tournament that ended successfully on Thursday.

Hoopsters from Ukhrul district went home as the winner in the Women’s competition while in Mens 3 shot competition, Thaikhang from Tamenglong district took home the championship.

The current unrest in the State has left many teams from Imphal and Churachandpur from participation but the presence of teams from Tamenglong district and Nagaland saw a positive impact on the tournament.

Over the span of six years, Wilders Club Winter Basketball Tournament has become a fixture in the State for Basketball players and lovers. The Club is slowly inching towards creating a platform for sports other than football. 

What is 3×3 basketball tournament and how popular it has become?
3 on 3 Basketball is a half-court game played by two teams of three players each, including a maximum of three substitutes. And according to a report it is, “Considered to be the number one urban sport in the world, 3×3 basketball developed from a creative variation of basketball with a less formal structure – street basketball. Evolving from outdoor courts to the Olympic Games, 3×3 basketball has been structured over the years by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the governing body responsible for developing 5×5 basketball. The introduction of events such as the 3×3 World Tour and the 3×3 Superleague in France reflects the soaring popularity of this young urban sport, which is played in an electric atmosphere whipped up by the DJ and the music.”
