Ukhrul, Manipur | EKHON: As tension continue to escalate in the hill districts of Manipur, a Naga Village Guard (NVG) member was killed in an ambush early Friday morning near Sinakeithei village in Ukhrul district.
According to a statement issued by the Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), the deceased has been identified as Horshokmi Jamang (29), son of Lungshim Jamang of Chatric Khullen village in Kamjong district.
The incident reportedly occurred during a routine patrol carried out by Naga Village Guards deployed in the area between Sirarakhong and Sinakeithei. The patrol was initiated in response to TNL’s report of “constant movement and disruption” in the region, allegedly linked to armed Kuki cadres operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, along with other militant groups.
The TNL claims that the patrol team was ambushed by these armed cadres, resulting in the death of Horshokmi Jamang at the scene. The organization strongly condemned the incident, characterizing it as an act of aggression and asserting that the deceased was defending his land at the time of the attack.
In its statement, the Working Committee expressed “profound sadness” over the loss and extended condolences to the bereaved family. It also paid tribute to Jamang’s “bravery, valor, and ultimate sacrifice,” stating that his death would not be in vain.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation or response from security forces or representatives of Kuki groups regarding the allegations. The situation in the region remains tense, with concerns over further escalation
