TNL to maintain Tangkhul area as “Freezone”

Ukhrul, May 13, 2023: Days after the communal riot broke out in Manipur between the two communities, there has been a lot of anxiety and curiosity among people in Naga areas. In Ukhrul, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) on Friday called Tangkhul as “freezone” from violence and issued a strict public advisory to all Tangkhul community.

The statement adviced and strictly warned that Tangkhuls should not side with any party without the knowledge and sanction of Tangkhul Naga Long in the ongoing communal crisis in Manipur.

It also warned that “no one should write/comment anything in the social media regarding the prevailing situation other than the official statement from the office of the TNL.”

In order to maintain peace and avoid untoward incident, it said “in the jurisdiction of Tangkhul Wungram, no individual/village should indulge in frisking/checking of any vehicle or passer-by” and that any person “who acts against it will be dealt seriously”.

Meanwhile, the TNL held an emergency meeting on Friday where more than 1000 people including village chiefs, ex bureaucrats, former TNL presidents, executives and observers from all walks of life attended the meeting. It deliberated on the issues at hand with an aim for peace and goodwill at Tangkhul area amidst the crisis that could escalate even more.
