ANSAM Announces Intensified Agitation Over Missing Six Naga Hostages

Date:

UKHRUL | June 4 | EKHON : The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has announced intensified democratic agitation over the alleged abduction of six Naga individuals. ANSAM said the move comes nearly three weeks after the incident, with authorities yet to trace the hostages, raising tensions across the region.

As part of its course of action, ANSAM launched an intensified democratic protests beginning with a march toward Imphal today along National Highway-202 (Ukhrul–Imphal Road). All 60 ANSAM members from various units reached Imphal safely, with no untoward incident reported. The march is set to end at Makhan village.

The decision was taken during an Emergency Assembly convened on June 3 at Ukhrul District Headquarters and hosted by the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), where leaders and representatives discussed the continuing uncertainty surrounding the six missing persons.

According to ANSAM, the six individuals were abducted on May 13, 2026, at Leilon Vaiphei village in broad daylight. The organization claimed that the armed group KNF(P), along with villagers from Leilon Vaiphei, was involved in the incident. Independent confirmation of these allegations was not immediately available at the time of reporting.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the Association expressed disappointment that the deadline of an earlier ultimatum issued to the Government of Manipur and relevant authorities had expired without any concrete information regarding the condition or whereabouts of the hostages.

“The prolonged silence and lack of visible progress have further intensified the anxiety and suffering of the victims’ families and the Naga people,” the organization stated.

The Assembly also discussed broader political and community measures. While acknowledging previous calls to boycott the state government, the organization said wider consultations among Naga stakeholders would be necessary before implementing such decisions.

In addition, ANSAM resolved to establish an action committee on the prevailing situation in Naga areas, with former leaders of the Association expected to be included in the committee.

The issue has generated growing concern among local communities, particularly among the families of the missing individuals, who continue to await information on the safety and return of their loved ones.

ANSAM reiterated that it would continue pursuing democratic and peaceful means until the six individuals are located and reunited with their families.
