EKHON | UKHRUL: Following the launch of the Imphal-Ukhrul-Imphal Route service by the Chief Minister N Biren Singh and virtually attended by Ukhrul officials led by DC Kengoo Zuringla and the officials of Imphal Airport, the first helicopter service of Ukhrul landed at Somsai Helipad.
After the launch in the state capital Imphal, Transport Minister Khashim Vashum, Chingai MLA Leishiyo Keishing, Ukhrul MLA Ramnganing Muivah were accompanied by Airport Director Chipemmi Keishing, Micheal Achom, Secretary transport along with three other team members to Ukhrul. Ukhrul DC along with SDO and other district officials and CSOs welcomed them warmly with traditional shawls, words of congratulations and ready smile.
CM Biren Singh said the launching of the Imphal-Ukhrul-Imphal Route “will greatly serve in ensuring uninterrupted travel, business and activities in the two districts.” The state government is committed to delivering its various welfare projects in terms of infrastructure development, connectivity, health and education to fulfil the goals for an inclusive growth, he further added.
The initiative comes under the 75:25 subsidy scheme that has been successfully operating flights from Imphal to Tamenglong, Jiribam and Moreh since September 2018. The occasion also saw the launch of district transport offices in five districts namely, Pherzawl, Kakching, Noney, Kamjong, and Jiribam.
Meanwhile, Shimreingam Zimik, a local expressed his gratitude to CM Biren Singh, Transport Minister Khashim Vashum and the central government for initiating the Heli service in Ukhrul, adding that the service will aid medical emergencies as well as help the denizens to travel even in seasons when the road conditions are at their worst.
According to the officials, the helicopter service under the Manipur Heli Service will be made available every Saturday with a subsidized cost per ticket of Rs.2500.
